The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Thriller Merging Survival Horror with Social Deduction Mechanics

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled a number of fascinating future games, but one in particular has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure seems to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction heart of Among Us.

"This is a unique game where a girl harboring multiple human souls inside her needs to flee from a maze of the mind," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Fractured Consciousness

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of high school age. Within her reside four distinct souls, all possessing their own fears and drives. These entities can seize control spontaneously, releasing their deep-seated terrors upon her suddenly.

Based on revealed gameplay, much of the action takes place within a eerie medical facility, while other scenes show the protagonist navigating a abandoned church.

A World of Personal Dread

"What are you afraid of? What causes you uncomfortable?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. People in power. Elements that appear minor to others can activate something primal inside us. This game explores that idea — fears that are specific to each person."

The central mechanic involves controlling whichever soul surfaces at any given time. However, these identities will change involuntarily as you play. During exploration, each soul's anxieties become exaggerated and attack the girl in succession. When the soul shifts, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Eerie Aesthetics and a Fatal Decision

Initially, UN:Me shares noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is filled with orderlies who all share the identical visage, with unnervingly wide smiles. Figures in the lobby have large blooms growing from their necks are. Flowers are an ever-present element, contrasting natural beauty with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a singular twist. Players must determine which of the four souls haunting the protagonist is the "true" one. "Each of the souls asserts that the physical form belongs to them," explains a developer. "During the game, you need to figure out who is real."

After a player have deduced a persona is fake, they must eliminate it. But, because every entity can lie or obfuscate the reality, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.

"Maybe you've already destroyed the true [soul] with your own hands," the narration states. "The last one standing could be a fake. In any case, your choices are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed release date, but it is can be wishlist on platforms.
