Arne Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Defeat

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's expected for concerns to be raised about his position following another heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.

The Reds suffered their ninth loss in 12 matches, marking the team's worst streak after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult evening at their home ground.

“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received a lot of backing from above,” Slot stated.

“It would be nice to reverse this trend and secure a win obviously but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it is normal that questions are asked.”

He added, “I accept my situation. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”

Discussions with The Board

When asked to expand on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach revealed:

“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they back me.”

He mentioned, “During our regular discussions I feel the trust. But I've not talked to them after this match yet so it remains to be seen.”

Persistent Failings and Player Reaction

The manager highlighted recurring weaknesses from his squad in their European loss, namely wasted chances and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the team's situation.

“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones said.

“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the words.”

He went on, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched this club all my life.”

“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a period such as this with performances so bad.”

He stated, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And as long as that badge is taken away, we'll continue to battle.”

“We’re going to try to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, show everyone once more the values of this club and why it's known as the greatest side in the planet.”

“At this moment, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
